Flight Display Pro for Android and Wear OS

Flight Display Pro ("the app") is published by Tanut Apiwong ("I", "me"). This policy covers the app on Android phones and Wear OS watches. It explains how the app uses your information. The short version: the app does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data. Everything it reads from your device stays on your device. The only thing that leaves the phone app is one value, the time your access ends, which goes to your own watch.

Summary

• The app has no user accounts and contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking code. It does include two pieces of Google's software, one for purchases and one for talking to your watch.
• The app itself makes no network connections. It works fully offline.
• The app uses sensor and location readings only to draw the flight display in real time. It does not record, log, or send them anywhere.
• Purchases are handled entirely by Google Play. I never see your payment details or your identity.

Information the app uses on your device

Location

With your permission, the app reads location data from the device's GPS receiver, and only while the app is in front. It does not use Wi-Fi or cell positioning. It uses location to show ground speed, GPS altitude, track and GPS status, to work out magnetic variation, and to position your aircraft symbol on the navigation display. The app needs precise location; approximate location alone is of no use to it.

Location data is processed in memory on your device as it arrives. The app does not store a history of your position, record flights or tracks, or transmit your location to me or anyone else. The app does not read your location in the background.

You can decline location access when the app asks for it, or revoke it at any time in the app's permissions in your device's Settings. The instruments that depend on GPS will then show GPS OFF.

Motion and barometer

The app reads the motion sensors and the barometer to show attitude, heading, barometric altitude, and vertical speed. Android does not ask for permission for these sensors, so there is no permission to decline. The app reads them only while it is in front.

This data is processed in memory on your device and is not stored or transmitted.

Whether you are online

The app checks whether your device is online. It does this without connecting to anything. It needs to know only to judge whether what Google Play says about your subscription is up to date.

Settings stored on your device

The app saves a small number of items in its local storage on your device so that it behaves the same way the next time you open it:

• Level calibration (the reference orientation you set, and the mirror option)
• Navigation display range and overlay choices
• The last page shown on the watch
• Which version of the safety disclaimer you have acknowledged
• How much of the free preview time has been used
• The expiry time of your current pass or subscription, cached so the app can unlock without a connection
• A record of each pass you bought. Google Play forgets a pass once it is used up, so the app keeps the purchase record itself
• A note of which Pro plan you chose

The record of a pass is the receipt Google Play gave the app: what you bought, when, and Google's order number. It does not contain your name, email address or payment details. None of the other items identify you. None of these items leave your device through the app, with one exception: the phone sends the expiry time to your watch, as described under Purchases and subscriptions. They are removed when you delete the app. The app opts out of Android's backup altogether, so they are not copied into a device backup.

Because the record of a pass is kept only on the device, a pass does not move to a new phone or survive deleting the app. A Pro subscription does, through Google Play.

Navigation data

Airports, navaids, airspace and other navigation data come from a database bundled inside the app. Lookups run on your device. The app does not query any online service, so it does not send anything about what you view or where you are over the network.

Purchases and subscriptions

Google Play sells passes and subscriptions through its billing system. Google processes the payment and holds your payment details, billing information, and Google Account. I do not receive your name, email address, payment method, or any other identifying information.

The app asks Google Play on your device what you have bought, and it receives only the product purchased, when it was bought and whether it renews.

Purchases are made only on the phone. To unlock your watch, the phone sends it one value: the time your access ends. Google's software on your phone and watch delivers it, over Bluetooth when the two are connected, and otherwise over the internet through Google, encrypted so that only your phone and watch can read it. It never passes through any server of mine, and nothing else is sent. Pressing REFRESH on the watch asks the phone to send that value again.

Google provides me with aggregated sales and install reports that do not identify individual customers. If you have chosen to share usage and diagnostics data with Google in your device settings, Google may also provide me with aggregated, anonymized crash and performance statistics.

Google's handling of your information is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

Information I do not collect

The app does not collect any of the following: contact information, location history, identifiers, usage data, diagnostics, health or fitness data, financial information, contacts, photos, or browsing history. The app does not use advertising identifiers or track you across apps or websites.

Because I collect no personal data, I have none to sell, share, disclose in response to requests, or delete on request.

Children

The app is not directed at children and collects no personal data from anyone, including children under 13.

If you contact me

If you email me for support, I receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in the message. I use it only to reply to you and do not add it to any mailing list or share it with anyone.

Changes to this policy

If the app's behavior changes in a way that affects your privacy, I will update this policy and change the effective date above before the change ships. The current version is always available at the address linked from the app's store page and from its Google Play listing.
